Why I don’t want a new Type R.
Four hundred dollars, per corner, to put winters on a Civic. These are the only 245/30/20 winters on tirerack.

Could you go with a smaller wheel diameter for winter tires, or are the brakes large enough that something like an 18" wheel wouldn’t fit?

Might as well garage it and have a winter beater like fancy people my dumb ass
![]() 07/10/2017 at 23:46 |

13.8" Brembo Rotors. 18" wheels are on the Civic SI, maybe 19" wheels would work?

More impressive mechanically, less aggressive aesthetically.

If I’m going to have a separate apcar for winter, my summer car is going to have two seats and RWD.
![]() 07/10/2017 at 23:48 |

Couldn’t you just get a set of steelies in a normal size?
![]() 07/10/2017 at 23:50 |

both my summer car and winter beater have 2 doors and RWD... close enough?
![]() 07/10/2017 at 23:51 |

The Type-R is the single most hideous production car I’ve seen in the flesh. It’s not aggressive, it’s just glued on landscape plastic wherever looked worst.
![]() 07/10/2017 at 23:53 |

:\ How small of wheels can clear those brake rotors? That size rubber as winter rubber sounds ridiculous. Put on narrower rubber (215 maybe), on an 18" wheel. More traction, less money. Four cereal.

Mmm that grey tho

.”
Fixed that for you.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 00:14 |

And yet still a decent amount of black plastic up front. Just a better execution

17 or 18 inch rims won’t clear the brakes?
![]() 07/11/2017 at 00:21 |
|
Idk, but they are a pretty tight fit.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 00:26 |

That’s not tight
![]() 07/11/2017 at 00:28 |

Point taken. And 2" down on diameter is only 1" closer to the caliper.

I can’t believe the Civic is on 20s. That seems unnecessary. 19s would have been more appropriate.
If it’s running 30 aspect ratio not only will the tires be more expensive but some tire shops won’t mount them, or if they will they’ll charge more to do it.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 00:33 |
|
18 should fit and be at least 200$ less each tire.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 00:38 |
|
That’s what happened when you design a car around ‘Ring times instead of real world use.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 00:50 |
|
20's seem unnecessarily big on any car, but especially one as small as the civic. 400 per tire is insane
![]() 07/11/2017 at 06:01 |
|
I doubt the Type R will be any use in the winter anyway. Even on those tires most heavier minivans will be getting traction and pulling away.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 06:10 |
|
$400 will pay for my next set. with $100 left over
![]() 07/11/2017 at 07:42 |
|
Far better execution, and most of it with a purpose as framing actual intakes! The Civic has a crapton of fake ones.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 08:58 |
|
Exactly, that’s the best part about having an older car with 15" wheel.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 09:00 |
|
Idk other than the body kits ground clearance it should be fine. I’ve had older civics with snow tires that were always a blast in the winter. Of coarse my AWD is more fun
![]() 07/11/2017 at 09:00 |

14"
:)
![]() 07/11/2017 at 09:02 |

Nice. My old 91 Civic had 13" steelies. I bought a set of tires for 250 bucks including install and an alignment
![]() 07/11/2017 at 09:08 |
|
Why use the stock wheels? Throw some steelies on it for the winter.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 09:41 |
|
For the cost of tires you could by a beater subaru for the winter....the subaru will be more fun in the snow....or even more fun by a rwd beater for the winter.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 09:53 |

I don’t think a 20" rim is helping ring times that much. It might even hurt - the nurburgring is a really bumpy track, a little extra sidewall might help a street car.
![]() 07/11/2017 at 12:35 |
|
That doesn’t just suck for winter, it sucks for summer too feeding that thing sticky tires then won’t be cheap either
On the upside 18"s with the right spoke design and offset will clear brembo 6 pots.
Assuming honda stuck with the 5 on 114.3 you can get a set of said 18s from the last couple generations of Subaru STis (and probably most wheels spec’d to fit them)
![]() 07/11/2017 at 12:38 |

17" here on the Mazda 3. Scored a new set of BFG Sport-Comp2 tires on Ebay through some giant sale for $350. That was luck though.

I was out of line on a joke, I agree. I’m sorry for making a comment that seemed worse than intention.

Not out of line, but two people took it as such, hence my snarky response. We’re not the Stasi.

No I agree with them, I wish I could delete it. I’m not looking to “Cal out” anyone I was just making a joking comment based on conversations me and him have. He told me it was a call out and didn’t like it. By then I was just mad at myself for not realizing how stupid the comment was and felt like it was taken differently than intention
![]() 07/11/2017 at 15:58 |

Well, we can either leave our conversation up in this thread, or I can dismiss it - your call, but since I’ve already addressed it and cleared the flag I’m good to go.

You can leave it, so that the people that saw it as anything but a joke can see my apology, thank mate

It’s a fwd car with an LSD and a stick shift. On snow tires it’ll work lovely in the winter.
![]() 07/12/2017 at 13:11 |
|
Why would you put snow tires on the stock wheels when the stock wheels are 20s? As long as the brakes clear smaller wheels you could go down to say an 18” wheel and cheaper tires.
(But don’t listen to me, because I have $300-something 255/35-18 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 winter tires on my stock rear wheels.)

dont live in winter?
![]() 07/12/2017 at 17:58 |

That’s a good idea, except I love driving in snow. It’s like you put a cheat code into real life that makes t so you can slid around at low speeds. Even e brake sliding with a FWD car is a blast as long as you’ve got snow tires to help you stop, and power out when you need to.

I lied now I have two cars and my Summer car has 4 seats and is Fwd.
